It's been a while again, no real excuses other then the fact of not making a great transition back between school and work, but as the job hunt continues and I've learned to work my program better in the midst of the chaos that occurs in normal life and I'm hoping to get a better, more sober lifestyle down instead of simply living more as a dry drunk. So this week we have part 2 of a talk from past in the podcast, (Steps 3 and 4 by Mark and Dave) which I think gave me more insight on how to work step 4 in my own life and how best to do step 4 when I work with others. So I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I have! Thanks to all who emailed me about my grandfathers death, it is good to know the support of a fellowship, both at my home group and also even with those I have never met before. So I would encourage you all to continue to spread support among one another and those you interact with in your own home groups. On that general topic of support, this weeks mp3 is on Sponsorship. I realized I have never posted anything on the topic and thought it to be important as I forget that not everyone thinks that's an important thing to do. But as Dave P and Polly P talk about, sponsorship is essential to our sobriety and our continued sobriety. So whether you don't have a sponsor, are being sponsored or are a sponsor yourself, you will be able to take something good away from this mp3. This last week I didn't manage to get a file posted as my Grandfather passed away, and so this last week I've been trying to remember to care for myself. But today I listed to Tom N.'s story which was really great as he shared about his experience with the 12 steps, and reminds me, and I hope us, that we can be in the program and be sober and still suffer from our addictions. For this program is truly about a spiritual experience with God, not simply doing some work to get sober. We cannot get true sobriety until we connect with God, but so often that is missed. So I hope you will find this encouraging and will help you to seek out God. This week we have Peter M. speaking about the last three steps of the twelve step program of recovery. He tells us how essential it is for us to work the last steps, to stay current in our inventories and to continue to pursue a way of living which is connected to our God. But perhaps most important of all he reminds us of how essential it is to walk and work this program with others, to support one another and has a great story right at the end of this podcast which is a perfect metaphor of how we can each support one another. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have! As always feel free to email me quesitons, comments or concerns at 12steppodcast@gmail.com and this mp3 came from www.xa-speakers.org so check them out! Sorry for this week being a day late, but I'm still figuring out new life being married and that has been making a new routine hard to find. This week we have Dennis R. talking at a Carry this Message time about the 6th through 9th steps. He speaks about his own imperfection and struggles which I think can help us to identify what we need to walk through so that we can walk in sobriety one day at a time. He isn't shy about identifying his own weakness which helped me to understand better my own. But best of all he says something I think we maybe have heard before but all need to hear again, "You can't think your way into right living, you have to live your way into right thinking." Sorry for no posts the last couple of weeks, but in the state I reside, there was a power outage along with the fact that I got married a little over a week ago, so I've been a bit busy and life just took over for a couple of weeks. But since there aren't any more life changing events hopefully happening in the next few weeks, and the power will stay on, we should be back on track. I am only posting a short reflection tonight by Joe and Charlie on the 5th Step, but I hope either tomorrow or the next day to post at least one more mp3 to catch up on material and to get some for those of you who may have been wanting more :). I reside in Washington State and we lost power which made it a bit hard to post on the 14th, however simultaneously I was trying to finish up any details for my wedding that was on the 16th (which was made even more fun by the power outages). Sorry for it being late this week, but I managed to get back form thanksgiving without listening to any new mp3's and the yesterday I finished a book I was writing for a write a novel in a month project. But this week we have Johnnie H. talking about Steps 1, 2 and 3. Even though I worked these steps a while back, he really emphasizes what the first three steps are about, admitting our own powerlessness, surrendering our will to God's and walking in the knowledge of that. Even though I've been sober for a while, it truly reminded me of why the first three steps are so important my life as the foundation of me walking in sobriety. So I hope you enjoy it as much as I have! Also, as always, if you have any comments, quesitons or concerns, you can email me at 12steppodcast@gmail.com! This week I tried to find some new material for steps 1, 2 and 3 but failed in doing so, and since mp3's take a while to listen through I decided to go back to some more of what Joe and Charlie say about the beginning of the 12 step program. I think their insights are so critical to understanding what this program of action is, and as the title says, how it works. So if you haven't heard this mp3 before you are in for a treat, and if you have may it help you as much as me to grow in our sobriety! I have to apologize for this week coming out a little bit later, I usually make sure I have the podcast posted by 11:30pm on Thursday (PST), but as there have been a few major life events going on for me I didn't plan ahead enough to get it posted till this morning :). This week's mp3 is classic audio from Joe and Charlie walking through the doctor's opinion section of the AA Big Book. They talk about how our addictions are an allergy, something that we have a physical reaction to. But this is a good basis for us understanding our own addictions either for the first time or being reminded of the basis of our addictions. As always, thank you for your encouraging emails, it helps me to be encouraged myself :) and if you have any questions, comments, suggestions or concerns about the podcast feel free to email me at 12steppodcast@gmail.com! It seems to be a good time to start going through the whole 12 step program again, so over the next few weeks I will be posting different mp3's which help us as we walk through the 12 steps. This week we have Chris R. and Peter M. reminding us of the primary purpose of A.A. Why we do what we do, and why we are addicts. He tells us to think about what our primary purpose is, why either we may be struggling with sobriety or those around us are struggling with sobriety. We need to work the program for what it is instead of looking for other answers. While it's not easy to hear, I think it's essential for our sobriety to both learn and remember that we need to work our program and we need God to truly work our program. Funily enough, today when I a posting this there is 260 subscribers who checked the podcast yesterday, which would mean there has been around 10 people a week who have found out about this podcast for the past 26 weeks! However the message has spread even farther then that as there are over 500 downloads each week of this podcast! So thanks so much after half a year for all of the support, as you help me to stay in 12 step material and to keep carrying the message to others. Also, I had been asked this last week if I am planning on stopping the podcast at any point, and the answer is I plan to continue this for as long as God is not leading me to something else, and I don't see that happening anytime in the future :). This weeks mp3 is speaker Keith L. who talks about relationships and addicts. Keith talks about how our we as addicts tend to view our relationships with others and how we have treated others and continue to treat them. It's a great listen for anyone at any point they find themselves in their sobriety! As always, feel free to email me at 12steppodcast@gmail.com, and this mp3 came from www.xa-speakers.org so check them out!

A New Pair Of Glasses - Part 2 - Chuck C.

Welcome to week 25! I hope that the podcast is okay for everyone as this last week I had one day where the stats were waaaay down on subscribers, so I wanted to say if there are issues with the podcast, let me know at 12steppodcast@gmail.com. And I have to apologize for being a bit late on posting the podcasts lately, as I've been keeping very busy so I haven't always got to posting until the evening. So now that I've rationalized away my responsibility ;) thanks for listening this week, and I hope you'll enjoy Chuck C. talking about the 12 Steps. He walks through the different steps, reminding us that the program isn't complicated, it just needs to be worked. Instead of making excuses or trying to make things complicated, we need to simply see the steps for what they are, and follow them as a plan of action instead of a plan of intentions. In this mp3 we hear Joe and Charlie walk through the first part of the Big Book and tell the History of AA, how it came about and give us the background which can help us to work the tweleve step program. So enjoy! As always this mp3 came from www.xa-speakers.org and you can contact me at 12steppodcast@gmail.com and also thanks for the encouraging email :)

Father Terry - Hawaii

Welcome to week 23! As always, I have another great (at least in my opinion :) mp3 for everyone this week. Speaking is Father Peter who gives us a great reminder of why we work the 12 step program and what this means for our lives. Father Terry speaks about how the program should affect all aspects of our lives and encourages us with his own story of recovery. So listen, enjoy and once again thanks for the feedback, encouragment and even just for subscribing! This week comes almost on friday, at least in my time zone :) so I hope you will all enjoy it! In this mp3 Cliff R. is speaking on his expeireince in the 12 step program and it is both funny and inspiring. Both of these things work together to help us see the depth of our own addiction, how far we either have fallen now or in the past, and how much we need the 12 step program of recovery. Cliff R. uses humor but also reminds us that we truly need to work our programs hard to keep our sobriety. Once again this week the RSS feed that I have been using seemed to have issues, so hopefully it will stop having issues and continue to work :). However, this week we have Karen N talking to us about the 1st through 3rd steps. She also talks about what it really means for an alcoholic to see their own powerlessness, what some of the biological factors that may play into that are, yet also the weakness we have to surrender as addicts. She also walks through the second and third step, talking about what she has learned it means to take these steps. This week comes a bit early but it makes up for the last couple of weeks when I haven't posted till a bit later :). I never really expected the podcast to get this big but I'd thought I'd let you all know how wide the message has been able to be spread. While the number of subscribers who check the podcast on any given day varies from 150-200, I have anywhere from 400-500 downloads in any given week. But this isn't just isn't people from the US. There has been people from 27 different countries, including the US, that have accessed the podcast. I don't get any personal information when anyone subscribes, but it does tell me which country the podcast is being accessed from. And I have been amazed just how far the message has traveled and if you want to see a list of the countries, check it out on the blog (below this post) and if I don't have your country, either comment and add it or email me :). But I don't say all this to brag, I want to say thanks to all of you out there who have listened because it has helped me in my sobriety by keeping me in 12 step material, and also if it wasn't for you listeners, this podcast wouldn't be near as popular and not as many people would have heard about it. So thanks so much :). This week we have John A speaking to us on step 1 about what it was like for him to figure out that he was an alcoholic. John does a great job of reminding us why we go to our meetings if we're past step one and for those before it he helps you to see how in our lives we have really hit bottom with our addicitons. So enjoy! Right now the podcast is in a little bit of a confusing state, the epsiodes aren't showing up on iTunes, but people can still subscribe and also get new episodes. So hopefully this will clear up as I've found someone else online who had the same problem and I guess it just disappeared eventually. If anyone has any suggestions though I would love to hear them! This week, we have Joe and Charlie talking about the resentment in our lives. This mp3 is a great reminder about what we are to do with our resenements and how we work through them in Step 4. This is great for anyone to listen to whether you are going through the 4th step or you've already been through it. So enjoy! As always, this audio came from www.xa-speakers.org and if you have any requests or suggestions feel free to email me at 12steppodcast@gmail.com!

Steps 4, 5, 6 and 7 - Glasshouse (2002) - John A.

Welcome to week 10! As always check out www.xa-speakers.org for more 12 step audio just like this one as it came from that website! Also, feel free to email me suggestions, ways you were encouraged or almost anything else at 12steppodcast@gmail.com! And I think I have forgotten to say thanks to all of you who have been an encouragement with this podcast and have said how much it's helped, that encourages me to continue to carry the message to others and helps me to know that God is really working through this simple podcast. So this week John A. walks through the 4th through 7th steps talking about the different aspects of doing the 4th step inventory and taking the 5th step with another. I would highly recommend that anyone who is at the 4th or 5th step, or who has ever been through the steps to really listen to at least this part of the mp3 because he does such a good job at walking through very simply how one should take a 4th and 5th step. Also, John talks about our relationships with others and what they should look like and does it all with a lot of humor along the way. So enjoy!

Steps 3 and 4 - FSTOS - Mark H. and Dave F.

Welcome to week 9! I really should come up with a better start each week other then that but thus is life :). This week Mark H. and Dave F. talk about what it means to take a 3rd and 4th step, to really surrender ourselves to God and to take an honest inventory of ourselves. They remind us that God will let us do things on our own if we want to so we can rembeer that we can't do things on our own but instead that we need God to do anything and we need to ask for what His will is. As always feel free to email me at 12steppodcast@gmail.com, to suggest any audio or anything for the podcasts or just to give feedback which is always helpful! I have to say thanks to all of you who have been listening! I just recently posted on my blog the amount of subscribers on any given day and we finally crossed over 100 subscribers yesterday! And within the last week over 430 people have downloaded last weeks release! So thanks for sharing this with others, I hope that the message in these mp3's are bring hope and help to each of you as you are walking in sobriety. As always, if you have any comments, suggestions or anything else you can email me at 12steppodcast@gmail.com or check out the homepage/blog where this is all posted at which is 12steppodcast.blogspot.com. Last, once again this weeks release comes from xa-speakers.org and is a great message on Steps 3, 4 and 5 introducing the idea of having a God box to place our prayers and concerns in, living life surrendered to God and taking an honest inventory of ourselves and telling it to another person. So enjoy!

Steps 3, 4 and 5 - Carry This Message (2003) - Greg W.

Welcome to week 7! I just first wanted to say thanks to all of you who have been encouraging with your feedback as it helps to encourage me :). As always this weeks mp3 comes from www.xa-speakers.org and if you have any comments, suggestions, mp3's you'd like to hear on the podcast, or anything else you can email me at 12steppodcast@gmail.com . Also, I had been given the suggestion of starting a messageboard where people could discuss what they hear in this podcast or even discuss their recovery, if any of you think that would be good idea email me and let me know. However, this week we have Greg W. speaking on Steps 3, 4 and 5 spoken at a Carry This Message Conference in West Orange, NJ. Greg talks about powerlessness over his addiciton, not wanting to say he was powerless, but he realized he can't run his life on his own. As he puts it, "I don't know, I need help" a place that we all find ourselves in our addiciton. Also he talks about how we do the things in the 12 step program this to get better, not simply when we get better.

Story, Step 1 and Step 2 - Peter M. - Carry This Message (2002)

Welcome to week 6! I have to say thank you to all of those who have been subscribing out there becuase this project is making me listen to a lot of recovery material that I may not have if I hadn't had any listeners out there. So I hope that this podcast is helping your recovery process as much as it is helping mine. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post them on the blog or email me at 12steppodcast@gmail.com. This week John A. speaks on his experience of discovering that he himself is an alcoholic, his journey into AA and his journey within AA which lead him to find that God cares about his life. This week we have John A speaking about his expiereince of finding his higher power, and what it took to get him there. He has a great story that I think all of us can relate to in holding back from God because there are just things we think we can do on our own. So I hope that his words help you in your sobriety as much as he helped me. Also, there are a couple of other podcasts I wanted to mention, Sobercasting which I found out is a podcast much like mine (you can find them on iTunes by typing in sobercasting or by clicking on the link on my homepage 12steppodcast.blogspot.com) which I haven't listened to yet but I reconized a few of the names on there and they were people who I had found helpful to my sobriety previously. Also, for any of you who attened Al-Anon, or if your significant other struggles with a different addiciton, or if you are just interested, check out Al-Anon Sis (also on iTunes and listed on my website) who has a great podcast going. Last, and as always, this mp3 came from www.xa-speakers.org so if you want more mp3's to listen to (i.e. if a once a week release isn't enough :) check out their website.

My Odeo Channel (odeo/a1a14f95ddd5b209)

Carry This Message - Step 1 (2003) - Chris R.

Thanks to all you out there who have subscribed or let someone else know about the podcast! Already I've been getting a few subscribers which has been great and I'm really glad to see that people are interested in this because I hope that this will be a blessing to everyone out there wherever they find themselves on their journey. Also, if you would like to contact me you can do that by emailing me at 12steppodcast@gmail.com and I'd love to hear suggestions for the podcast or even audio files that you would like to hear on the podcast. This weeks mp3 is acctually in two parts. This first part is a husband and wife team (he went to AA, she went to Al-Anon) talking through their expiereince with the first three steps. They speak not only about the steps but about the unmanigability they found in their own life and in their addictions.

Introduction To Steps 1, 2 and 3 - Question and Answer - Bob B. and Linda B.

In this second of two mp3's for this week we have the second part of a husband and wife team (he went to AA, she went to Al-Anon) talking through their expiereince with the first three steps and answering some questions about their experience. I had been looking around on iTunes for a good 12 step podcast with weekly releases and was having a hard time finding one that I liked so I decided to create this podcast out of mp3's I had been listening to. I hope to have weekly releases of 12 step audio files from many different people. If you would like to get direct access to many of the files that I have downloaded, head over to http://www.xa-speakers.org/ since that is where I downloaded most of my files from. This week, the audio file is two men who talk about the first step in an AA meeting. They discuss how important the first step is not simply to starting the program but to walking and maintaining sobreity. Also, there is discussion about working with those who relapse quite often and the importance of knowing that if one does relapse, not only could their next drink give them a spirtiual death, but it could also cause a physical death too.
